Clothing for nurses and doctors can also be comfortable and personal. Medanta, a manufacturer of healthcare apparel, wants to revolutionize the dress code in healthcare in Finland and around the world.
Clothing sends a strong message, even in healthcare. Medanta’s CEO Anu Kivelä enjoys seeing Finland’s top doctors and public figures walking the runway as models for the company’s apparel.
“For us at Medanta, it is important that the clothing for both healthcare staff and patients is comfortable, practical, and also looks good,” Kivelä says.
That is why it is only natural for the company to participate in a fashion show at the Aesthetics in Healthcare event in Helsinki. Among those posing on the runway are HUS CEO Aki Lindén and Administrative Chief Physician Sanna-Maria Kivivuori, dance teacher and entrepreneur Aira Samulin, and Chancellor of the University of Helsinki Kaarle Hämeri. They are wearing Medanta’s outfits for healthcare staff.
“Colors have a huge impact”

The legendary dance teacher and entrepreneur Aira Samulin is wearing a shirt dress from Medanta’s Care collection. The pattern of the dress follows Medanta’s core idea: even healthcare personnel can express their personality.
Samulin believes it is absolutely essential that attention is paid to clothing in healthcare as well.
“My daughter developed schizophrenia, and I have visited the hospital thousands of times. I know that worn-out and stretched-out hospital clothes depress the patient. Colors have a huge impact on mood, and they are soothing,” Samulin says.
“Comfortably feminine”

HUS Administrative Chief Physician Sanna-Maria Kivivuori showcases a doctor’s work outfit designed by Medanta, which combines a lace pattern with sporty striped trousers.
“The outfit feels very good on. It also has a nice touch of femininity. In the backstage area, the other models have particularly admired the stripes on my trousers,” Kivivuori says.
The elastic material of this work outfit is also antimicrobial, which reduces and even prevents the spread of hospital infections.
“I would choose this as a work outfit myself”

National Coalition Party MP Sari Sarkomaa and HUS CEO Aki Lindén are wearing a flexible black-and-blue work outfit that Medanta has designed for Pohjola Terveys.
The latest textile technology has been utilized in the production of the MedantaDenim and Flex materials. The outfit handles industrial washing perfectly. The beanie, in turn, keeps hair in check.
“It is important that it is easy to move and be in your work clothes. This outfit feels really comfortable on. I could well choose this as a work outfit myself if I worked in a hospital. The outfit also looks good and has harmonious colors,” Sarkomaa says.
“Children also calm down”

Espoo City Council member Anna Rukko and Chancellor of the University of Helsinki Kaarle Hämeri showcase, as a pair, work outfits from the Mehiläinen collection, which are made from MedantaFlex and MedantaKnit materials.
“Children are often afraid of going to the doctor and the hospital. A comfortable, home-like environment as well as pleasant-feeling and colorful clothes could calm children down,” Hämeri estimates.
“An important event”
For Medanta’s Anu Kivelä, the fashion show is a great opportunity to highlight the evolution of healthcare clothing to meet modern standards.
“A beautiful garment made from high-quality and flexible materials strengthens the patient and promotes their recovery. The clothes we design for healthcare staff, in turn, help doctors and nurses cope in their demanding work.”
